One thing about us North Americans: We sure
love our chicken.
We've got our barbecue chicken, spicy chicken,
Cajun chicken, Chicken Teriyaki, and Chicken Caesar. Then there's your chicken parmesan, chicken salad, chicken soup, chicken
a la king, anything and everything we can cook up with our feathery friends. But let's face it: when you’re in a hurry,
almost nothing beats a good ol' chicken sandwich.
So after you whirl into the drive-thru of
your favorite fast food joint to indulge in some bird wrapped in bread, this is guaranteed to echo back to you through the
speaker:"Will that be grilled or crispy?""What's the difference?" you ask yourself. Well, try about a zillion grams of fat!
While McDonald's crispy chicken sandwich
contains 27 grams of fat, the grilled version, minus the mayonnaise, is only 5 grams. I’m no Einstein, but that means
the crispy version has 5 times the amount of fat, and most of that fat is of the nasty saturated variety.
Over at Wendy's, the grilled chicken sandwich,
with a delicious honey mustard, is a mere eight grams of fat. The crispy, fried breaded version adds ten grams to that. While
a BK Broiler at Burger King, minus the mayo, checks in at 9 grams of fat per sandwich, the fried version is a whopping 43
grams of fat!Take a look at what the Colonel is serving up. An extra crispy breast and wing from KFC combines for 43 grams
of jiggle.
So when it comes to making your spontaneous
fast food choices, take these crisp words of advice to heart: Give anything crispy the bird!
